The Child:
International research tells us that families, on average use seven different interventions to help manage the issues and complexities of their child's ASD. The type of interventions used vary depending on the age of the child and the severity of the impairment. What was discovered is that Speech Therapy was reported as the most common therapy used by families living with the condition.
BC Kids will address all of the different types of therapies available to families here in Australia, how to get started, as well as investigating alternatives health options. We will also discuss the NDIS, how to apply, and what you should consider at your phone interview etc.
Mother's and primary caregivers:
Mother's and primary caregivers assume the dominant role of managing the family routine. It can be tiring and exhausting in managing a household where the standard rules of parenting no longer apply. Add on top of this that your usual support network is not available for advice. These challenges and increased pressures to stay on track and manage the stereotypes may place mothers and primary caregivers under unnecessary burdens which may result in mental health issues.
BC Kids will discuss these issues and topics on how to cope and make "me-time" a priority.
Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter and social media platforms. BC Kids will keep you informed on all relevant healthcare issues as well as keeping you up to date on the NDIS and how it affects BC Kids' families.
